Matthew G. Horowitz

 

Matthew G. Horowitz is a Special Counsel in our New York City office with over eight years of wide-ranging litigation experience. His practice focuses on first-party commercial and residential property insurance coverage, professional liability, and general litigation. His insurance coverage matters include business interruption and communicable disease coverage, as well as fire, flood, hurricane, and weather-related insurance claims. He litigates in federal and state courts throughout the United States.

Prior to joining the firm, Matthew earned his Juris Doctorate from Boston University School of Law, where he was the Articles Editor of the Journal of Science & Technology Law and the President of the Public Interest Project. He graduated from Grinnell College and completed a public policy fellowship in British Parliament.

Following law school, Matthew served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office, where he was regarded as an effective litigator and dedicated public servant. As an ADA, he successfully handled hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases from investigation through trial. He has indicted dozens of violent felonies, including robbery, burglary, assault, narcotics offenses, and firearm possession. He has also conducted numerous pre-trial hearings and tried multiple cases to verdict.

Matthew also has extensive experience defending doctors and hospitals in complex, high exposure medical malpractice cases. This includes conducting client and expert witness meetings, defending and cross-examining doctors at deposition, conducting plaintiff depositions, researching, drafting, and arguing dispositive motions and motions in limine, and analyzing expert disclosures.
