Jason M. Chodos

Jason M. Chodos is a partner at Mound Cotton. He primarily devotes his practice to representing the interests of insurers in first-party property insurance coverage matters, including commercial and residential properties. Jason has extensive experience litigating and providing coverage advice concerning all aspects of property damage and time element losses, as well as bad faith claims under first-party property policies. Jason has been retained as national coverage counsel by insurance companies, managing general agents, and third-party administrators to work on matters.

As part of his robust litigation practice, Jason litigates on behalf of his clients’ interests, while consistently keeping the expense of litigation at the forefront of his consideration and managing realistic outcomes. Concurrently, Jason will routinely advise his clients on appraisal-related issues, avoidance of bad faith, claims handling practices and strategies for minimizing both the risk and expense of litigation, claim exposure issues, claim adjustment strategies, and changes in the law and its effect on application of policy provisions.

In addition, Jason has substantial experience with revising existing policy forms and drafting new forms and endorsements. Jason is also frequently invited by his clients to give presentations to their respective claims and underwriting teams to discuss various topics that impact how insurers do business in certain states, including but not limited to new case law decisions, trends in the legal industry, claims handling practices, post-loss assignments of benefits, attorneys’ fee exposure, appraisals, catastrophic losses, impact of public adjusters, application of policy conditions, and utility and effectiveness of proofs of loss.

Jason graduated law school from Nova Southeastern University – Shepard Broad College of Law, where he earned induction into the Order of Barristers. Jason was also a travel team member of the Moot Court Honor Society and Managing Editor of the ILSA Journal of International and Comparative Law. Jason received his B.A. in History from Emory University, where he was on the Varsity Cross Country Team (UAA All-Academic Team award recipient), part of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Vice President of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.
