Kate (Catherine) Hanley

 

Kate (Catherine) Hanley is Of Counsel at Mound Cotton. She is a graduate of the Fordham University School of Law and received a Bachelors of English Literature from Vassar College. She is admitted to practice in New York State Courts and the Southern District of New York.

Kate started at the firm as a summer associate in 2009. Her practice focused on representing the interests of insurers in first-party property matters and providing coverage advice on all aspects of first party property damage and time element losses, including fire, flood, hurricane, and weather-related insurance claims, builders risk, machinery/equipment coverage, business interruption, and bad faith. In addition, Kate has advised on losses involving course of construction/EPC contracts, other insurance, excess/surplus insurance, corrosion/contamination exclusions, bankruptcy, and difference in conditions cover. Kate also has experience with policy wordings, state insurance statutes and regulations, eDiscovery, reinsurance, and third-party liability coverage. Kate was involved with organizing Powerconference, Inc., an annual conference for brokers, carriers, risk managers, and third-party service providers for the onshore energy, petrochemical and power industries.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Kate worked for a patent and trademark docketing system and patent annuity payment provider in San Francisco and New York. She attended Fordham Law Evening Division, where she was the Evening Division Vice President for the Student Bar Association and received the Adele Monaco Memorial Award, awarded to a member of the graduating class as recognition for their positive impact on the lives of Evening Division students through the demonstration of compassion, courage, and determination.

Kate rejoined the firm in 2024 after working as a Knowledge Management lawyer at a large firm from 2020-2024. During that time, she was involved with the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) and also served as a member of the programming committee and co-director for the New York Knowledge & Innovation Lawyer group.

Kate is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional in the US (CIPP/U) and Europe (CIPP/E) as well as an Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP).
