Adam A. Alster
Adam A. Alster is a special counsel at Mound Cotton. He handles complex first and third party insurance coverage matters for multinational insurance companies. Throughout his career, Adam has handled coverage litigation involving many types of insurance policies, including property, commercial general liability, environmental, errors and omissions, directors and officers, cyber, professional liability, construction, and auto. He has also handled environmental and mass tort claims, including claims involving asbestos and other toxins and chemicals.
Adam has litigated large matters involving multi-million and billions of dollars in coverage with many insurers on the risk, and which involved complex allocation issues. He has also handled complex property insurance litigation involving difficult construction-related issues. Adam regularly provides legal advice and counsel to insurers in the pre-litigation stages of claims and has experience in subrogation actions on behalf of insurers and policyholders, as well as experience defending companies and individuals in commercial, class action, and mass-tort litigation.
During his years of handling large scale lawsuits, Adam has gained an expertise in e-discovery. He consistently improves the efficiency of discovery in matters involving large-scale document productions and works to lower clients’ litigation costs through the use of technology.
He is a member of the New Jersey and New York Bars, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey, Southern District of New York and Eastern District of New York, and is permitted to appear before the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Adam has also appeared as counsel pro hac vice in court proceedings in other states, including Illinois and Florida.
Adam graduated from Rutgers University School of Law with a JD and from Rutgers University with a BA in English Literature and Communications. During his tenure at Rutgers University, Adam was a finalist in the first New Jersey Collegiate Mock Trial Competition.
Prior to joining Mound Cotton, Adam worked at White and Williams LLP, McCarter & English, LLP and Day Pitney LLP. At McCarter & English, Adam represented policyholders in insurance coverage actions, and therefore, is able to consider a matter from both the insurer and policyholder perspectives, which has proved invaluable in multiple lawsuits. Adam also spent one year working in-house at an environmental insurer, Berkley Environmental, where he gained useful insight into the inner workings and procedures of insurers, which has allowed him to better serve his insurer clients.
Adam believes in community service, and served for many years as a member of the Board of Directors, usually in the role of President, while living at a condominium community.
