NEW YORK — Mound Cotton announced today that they have elevated three attorneys to partner. Both Jodi Tesser and Jared Markowitz work out of the New York office, and Stephanie Tippit works from the Texas office.

Tesser has litigated cases and provided first-party property insurance coverage advice for two decades. Her first-party practice focuses on commercial property damage claims, business interruption coverage, builder’s risk claims, an fire, flood, hurricane, and collapse claims. She also practices securities arbitration and litigation, and professional liability defense in which she represents broker dealers, foreign exchange dealers, financial advisors, insurance brokers, and registered representatives.
She received her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and her B.A. from Union College. She is admitted to the New York and Connecticut Bars as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York, Eastern District of New York, and District of Connecticut.
Tippit is a seasoned coverage lawyer in Texas, counseling clients in the global insurance market with a focus on the energy sector, including upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas losses, power generation, builder’s risk, and the broader commercial property industry. She advises domestic insurers and the London insurance market on claims handling and coverage issues, and defends their coverage positions in all phases of litigation.
She received her J.D. from Tulane University School of Law and her B.A., cum laude, from University of Utah. She is admitted to the Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi Bars, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of Texas; the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Western, and Middle Districts of Louisiana; and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Mississippi. She is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.
Markowitz is an insurance coverage litigator in our New York City office with over a decade of experience in insurance law. His litigation practice focuses on first-party commercial property insurance coverage and, in particular, business and contingent business interruption insurance, builder’s risk, communicable disease coverage, as well as fire, flood, hurricane, and weather-related insurance claims. He also has extensive experience advising on matters of reinsurance, federal procedure, appeals, and third-party liability coverage. Markowitz has successfully defended COVID-19 coverage cases for his clients against business interruption claims in Vermont and New York.
He received his J.D. cum laude, from Boston University School of Law and his B.S., magna cum laude, from New York University. He is admitted to the New York Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
